The Voices We Hear, Trinity Lutheran Church, Brattleboro, VT, October 2, 2022 1 Kings 19:12 Elijah heard the still, small voice of God… Pastor Jon tells the story of John Nash, the brilliant mathematics professor in the movie "A Beautiful Mind", who in 1978 was a professor on Pastor Jon's college campus. One day on campus a man in a suit came up to say he had been nominated for the Nobel prize. But Nash had schizophrenia and didn't trust the voices he heard. When we heard this man tell him about the Nobel prize, Nash turned to a student who was standing nearby and asked, “Is there a man speaking to me?” He tested the voice to see whether it was real. Ezekiel hears a voice – the still small voice of God. Many times that voice gets drowned out by the noise of life; the news, the movies, the Facebook, the friends, the phone calls,… Listen for that still small voice of God. So often it calls us to fulfill the potential we have within. Listen and hear it. It can open us up to a grand life. Pastor Jon Heydenreich presides, joined by Jeff Herman-May as assistant minister, Micaela Carlson Newton as reader, and Marsha Heydenreich on piano.
