Description:

Melancholy Is On You, Trinity Lutheran Church, Brattleboro, VT, April 3, 2022 Mary wipes the feet of Jesus with expensive perfume and Judas complains about this waste of money. John 12:7 Jesus said...“Let her alone. She’s anticipating and honoring the day of my burial. You always have the poor with you. You don’t always have me.” Christians need be concerned about the poor; I do not know of a church which does not help in some way. So why does Jesus go along with Mary who “wastes” expensive perfume on him? And he, seemingly, dismisses concern for the poor by saying we will always have the poor with us! Remember - Jesus was always caring for others. This story is a story of celebration. We do what we can for others….but we also need give ourselves permission to feel good, to celebrate life. Celebrate the goodness of your day and the blessings in which you live. Care for others but celebrate life. We can do both at the same time. This story gives us permission to smile. Pastor Jon Heydenreich presides, joined by Ron Solberg as assistant minister, Kris Grotz-Kuch as lector, and Laura Josephs our musician on piano and guitar. No matter who you are in your walk of faith, or where you are in that journey, you are invited to the communion table at Trinity Lutheran Church. Trinity Lutheran Church is an ELCA congregation, more or less traditional and relaxed, and a Reconciling in Christ congregation where all are welcome.
